Being one of the ancient Anatolian civilizations, the Phrygians covered the region with pine trees, especially due to the values they gave to pine trees. Afterward, the Ümraniye region, which was dominated by Rome and Byzantium, later passed under the auspices of the Danishmends, the state that Turkified Anatolia.
The Danishmends also put pressure on the Byzantine Empire by building the Alemdağ castle, one of the first Turkish castles near Istanbul, in this region. In the Ottoman period, the region, which was captured by Orhan Ghazi, was named ‘’Yalnız Selvi ‘’because of its dense forests.
During the Republic period, Turks coming from neighboring countries were settled in the region through population exchange. Ümraniye obtained the status of a district with the draft law passed in the Turkish Grand National Assembly in 1987.
