Foreign nationals who come to Turkey and want to continue to stay in Turkey when their visa expires are required to obtain a residence permit. At the same time, foreigners under the age of 18 are required to obtain a residence permit to continue to stay in Turkey according to the law.
On the other hand, there is more than one type of residence permit for foreign citizens. Types of residence permits can be listed as short-term residence permits, family residence permits, student residence permits, long-term residence permits, humanitarian residence permits, and residence permits for victims of human trafficking.
The residence permits that foreigners under the age of 18 can obtain are related to the family residence permit and student residence permit among the mentioned types of residence permits.
Family residence permit for foreign national spouses of Turkish citizens, foreign citizens who are within the scope of Article 28 of Law No.5901 or holders of one of the residence permits and foreign nationals of refugees and subsidiary protection status holders, their or their spouse’s minor foreign children and dependent foreign children of their own or their spouse can be given.
Thus, a family residence permit is granted to children of foreign nationals under the age of 18. Foreigners under the age of 18 who have a family residence permit have the right to education in primary and secondary education institutions until the age of 18, without obtaining a student residence permit.
Foreign citizens under the age of 18, whose mother or father are Turkish citizens, are given a residence permit for 5 years, while their parents are foreigners and children under 18 years of age are given a residence permit for the duration of their mother or father’s residence permit.
Foreign nationals accompanying their mother or father who are citizens of the Republic of Turkey must be under the age of 18. Foreign citizens under the age of 18 who do not have a family residence permit and who want to study primary and secondary education in Turkey are given a student residence permit.
As it is known, foreigners who want to study in primary and secondary education with a family residence permit can continue their education without a residence permit until the age of 18. However, foreign students who have completed the age of 18 and continue their education at the secondary education level are required to obtain a residence permit.
FOREIGN CITIZENS UNDER 18 YEARS OLD WHO HAVE TURKISH CITIZENSHIP THROUGH INVESTMENT
Foreigners who apply for the acquisition of Turkish citizenship through investment can apply on behalf of their family members, namely their spouses and children under the age of 18. In this case, the foreign investor’s family members are not required to apply for a short-term residence permit or make an additional investment.
Other family members can benefit from the citizenship application if some documents such as identity, passport documents, birth certificate, marital status document, photographs are presented. In addition, children over the age of 18 can get a permanent residence permit.
