History of Kadıköy
The historical traces in the Kadıköy region date back to before the establishment of the settlement within the city wall. Archaeological excavations carried out in the Fikirtepe neighbourhood of Kadıköy in the 1950s revealed that the first settlement traces in the region date back to 3000 BC.

Kalkedonia, which continued its existence in this region for a long time, came under the protection of the Ottoman Empire in 1353. After the conquest of Istanbul, the administration of the region was given to Istanbul Kadıköy, and from this date, the name of the region started to be known as “Kadıköyü”.
Kadıköy, which was a region under the Üsküdar sanjaks until the 1930s, left Üsküdar from this date and obtained the status of a district.
