How long can foreign citizens stay in Turkey?

Foreigners coming to Turkey can stay for up to 90 days without a residence permit within 180 days. However, foreigners who want to stay longer than this period are required to obtain a residence permit according to their purpose of stay. A foreigner who wants to work in Turkey must first find a workplace and then apply for a work permit for this workplace. The work permit application is made by the employer or his representative who wants to employ foreign nationals.

How to Apply for a Work Permit from Turkey?

Work permit applications of foreigners who have a residence permit for at least 6 months in Turkey are made domestically and are made directly to the Ministry of Labor and Social Security by the employer. Work permit applications from abroad are in two stages. At the first stage, the foreigner must apply to the Turkish Embassy in his country with the business or service contract signed between them and the employer.

If the application is approved by the Embassy, ​​the foreigner is given a reference number. The employer in Turkey applies for a work permit with this reference number. The company wishing to employ foreign nationals must employ at least 5 citizens of the Republic of Turkey. If more than one foreigner will be employed in the workplace in question, the employment condition of 5 citizens of the Republic of Turkey is required for each foreigner whose work permit is requested.

Can a foreigner be employed in household services?

People who have sick, elderly, and children in need of care at home can employ foreign nationals. Foreign nationals can only work as a babysitter, elderly caregiver, or nurse in household services. Apart from that, it cannot work as a cleaner, a daily, etc. The person who wants to employ a foreign carer in his home must prove with documents that he has a small child or a patient or elderly person in need of care.

How long does the work permit application result?

Work permit applications result in 30-45 days. The result of the application is sent by electronic mail to the employer who will employ foreigners. The decision of the Ministry is in the form of permission or rejection. In case of a work permit, the work card is sent to the workplace of the foreigner by post.
